Cesc Fàbregas and the Como Project

The Spanish coach, who managed Fàbregas during his time at AS Monaco, highlights the consistency of the Larian club’s project as one of the most compelling in European football:

«Como is one of the most interesting projects in European football right now. Their playing model has clearly Spanish roots: purposeful possession, clean build-up from the back, organized pressing. But the fascinating part is that the model isn’t being imported mechanically — it’s being adapted to Italian football. And that is enormously difficult to do well.» — Robert Moreno

Moreno also emphasizes the courage of betting on talented young players in a league as demanding as Serie A, and highlights that Como is proving that the Spanish philosophy of play can enrich Italian football, not oppose it.

Cesc as a Coach: A Vocation That Was Already Evident

Moreno also recalls a revealing anecdote from training sessions at Monaco that directly connects the player Cesc to the coach Cesc of today:

«Having Cesc on the pitch was like having a coach inside the field of play. I remember the individual work we did with players like Tchouaméni —who is now at Real Madrid— to develop certain qualities. Cesc would stay and watch. He wanted to listen, to understand the ‘why’ behind every drill. It was already clear that there was a coach in the making.» — Robert Moreno

On the future of Fàbregas as a top-club manager, Moreno has no doubts: «The pertinent question isn’t whether he can succeed at that level. I believe he can. The question is when and with which project that equation comes together.»

Italy as a Professional Destination

The Spanish coach, who speaks fluent Italian and lived in Milan for a year, reaffirms in the interview his interest in Serie A:

«Italy is a market that attracts me enormously. I have worked in Rome, I know Italian tactical culture from the inside. If a serious proposal came from a club with a genuine ambition to build something, I would consider it with the greatest interest. In football I don’t set myself geographical limits — what I look for is the right project.» — Robert Moreno

Moreno points out that Serie A is going through a very interesting moment, with ambitious clubs, a new generation of executives, and a league that is both demanding and stimulating at the same time.

Debunking the ChatGPT Story

Moreno also uses the interview to dismantle with facts the rumors about an alleged dismissal for using artificial intelligence during his time at PFC Sochi:

«They hired me, they renewed my contract until 2027, I promoted the team to the Russian Premier League, and we parted ways over results. ChatGPT doesn’t appear anywhere in this story. The facts are documented. The rumors are not.» — Robert Moreno

The coach explains that the origin was an incorrect translation of a Russian headline by a U.S. outlet, which turned «regularly used neural networks» into «Fired for using ChatGPT». TMW also published a dedicated article with this debunking.
